Let’s face it every tourist has a habit of choosing outfits that make them look like tourists. It is not intentional or done with the purpose of making them stand out from the locals but it happens. There are just certain items that have become associated with the tourist. Even locals who wear these items have been mistaken for tourists.
The good news is that there are alternatives to these tourist outfits that many tourists can choose to wear that will prevent them from sticking out like a sore thumb in the country they are visiting.
Here are some of the alternative fashion items that a tourist could choose to wear that will help them look like they are a local and not a tourist.
Sling Bags or Messenger Bags. There are a lot of items that a tourist needs to carry around with them when they are on vacation. In the past people turned to the fanny pack to carry the items. A more fashionable look would be for women to choose to carry around a sling bag or a shoulder tote bag and men to use a messenger bag. You lose the fanny pack look and are able to look like a local instead of a tourist without having to compromise on what you carry around.
Choose Pants or Shorts. Many tourists choose to pack a more traditional capri style pant. They are a great combination of shorts and pants and can be worn in a number of different weather conditions. However, capris are a traditional tourist style look. Make the effort and pack a pair of shorts and a pair of pants if you are unsure what the weather will be when you get to your location. You’ll thank yourself later when people aren’t asking you if you are on vacation.
